Good was born October 8, 1921 and died at home on February 14, 2012. He was raised on an 80-acre livestock and crop farm in Van Wert county Ohio with 3 brothers and one sister. He was the son of George Lewis and Dora Haines Good.   Don's livestock interests manifested early, through 4-H and FFA projects with Oxford sheep and swine. In 1939, Don entered The Ohio State University, working in the beef and horse barns and the meats laboratory to work his way through school. During his senior year, Don was called to active duty in World War II and he served in Europe and the Pacific, earning the Combat Infantry Badge and two battle stars. After returning to Ohio State, he was on the 1946 Ohio State livestock judging team and was high man in judging at the Kansas City Royal Livestock Show and was second high man at the Chicago International Livestock Exposition, where the team won.   Don received his bachelor's degree in 1947 from The Ohio State University and was named to the Animal Science Hall of Fame at Ohio State in 1950 and in 1970 he received the OSU College of Agriculture Centennial Award. In 1947 Don started his 40-year career at Kansas State University. His first position was to coach the livestock judging team, manage the purebred beef herds, and teach/advise students. As judging team coach, he won 14 major contests in 18 years. At the end of his first semester at KSU, he returned to Ohio to marry Jane Swick and bring her back to live in Manhattan.   In 1950, Don received his master's degree from KSU and his doctorate from the University of Minnesota in 1957. He was named department head of Animal Husbandry at KSU in 1966 and served in that capacity until his retirement in 1987. Following a devastating tornado in 1966, he and colleagues worked to form the Livestock and Meat Industry Council. This is a group of industry leaders that would aid in seeking private and corporate funding for use in improving or rebuilding facilities used to teach students and perform research.   Good’s influence, however, reached far beyond Kansas. His leadership and commitment to agriculture was instrumental in helping move livestock and meat production into the modern era. and documents academic committees, department information, and institutional history.","This collection is made up of eighteen boxes and the original arrangement was kept which was chronologically within folders.","Patricia J. O’Brien was born on April 1, 1935, in Chicago, Illinois to John P. O’Brien and Edna M. Massow. She attended Nicholas Senn High School, graduating in 1953, and then worked at the Illinois Bell Telephone Company as a plant engineering clerk from 1953 to 1960. Concurrently, Pat attended Wright Junior College and graduated in 1960 with an associate’s degree in art. She then attended the University of Illinois, graduating with a bachelor’s of art in anthropology in 1962 and a Ph.D. in the same subject in 1969. Her dissertation was, “A Formal Analysis of Cahokia Ceramics: Powell Tract”. O’Brien was an interim anthropology instructor at Florida Atlantic University in 1966-1967, and became an assistant professor of archeology and sociology at Kansas State University (KSU) in September 1967.  O’Brien worked at KSU for 31 years, retiring as a professor emerita in 1998. She has published seven books and over forty articles, and has presented regularly while at KSU. She has been involved professionally, including in the American Anthropological Association, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and Sigma Xi. In 1989-1990, O’Brien was an Honor Lecturer at the Mid-American State Universities Association, and the following year she received the Conoco Distinguished Graduate Faculty Award and Sigma Xi deemed her a Distinguished Research Lecturer. She was a Fulbright Senior Lecturer in 1994-1995 at Würzburg, Germany, and was a guest professor in 1996 at Munich, Germany. In the early years, the Center was located in Fairchild Hall and staffed by volunteers who made weekly commitments to be in the Center to take calls, answer questions, and to keep it operational.   In 1975, the Center moved to Holtz Hall and became involved with raising campus awareness of the changing roles of men and women and the implications of these changes. Further, the Center taught rape prevention classes. The next year the Center moved to the Student Governing Services Offices in the K-State Student Union, which included a much-needed space for privacy. The Center continued expanding services and resources as women on campus sought assistance. It moved from a resource center to an advocacy and education office as it addressed issues such as sexual harassment, job discrimination, and sexual assault.   By 1983, the Center had moved to Holton Hall and had created more programs, classes, workshops, and one-on-one consultations on sexual violence, dating violence, domestic violence, stalking, sexual harassment, and self defense. These offerings were available to students, faculty, staff, and community members. Groups and campaigns associated with the Center included WAR (Wildcats Against Rape), PEERS (Proactive Educators for the Elimination of Sexual Violence), CNV (Campaigns for Nonviolence), SafeZone, and It's On Us, K-State. The materials are divided into administrative records, Campaigns for Nonviolence (CNV), Proactive Educators for the Elimination of Sexual violence (PEERS), Wildcats Against Rape (WAR), photographs, artifacts, and posters. The administrative records includes the history of the Women's Center, class resources, conferences (including one conference titled \"Coming Out Day Conference\" for the LGBT community), correspondence, handouts, office policies and procedures, newsletters, presentations, reports, workshops for women, the young women's project, four booklets empowering women to become leaders, and one CD with a note that reads \"Future Music Possibilities.\" Class resources are Modules 1–6 in printed form and Modules 1–7 on a Zip disk, which were used in the \"Students in Oral Communication I \u0026 IA: Speaking of Issues Relating to Women...and Men\" class. CNV materials include documentation of rallies and campaigns, history, speakers' information, campaigns and seminars, publicity, brochures, newspaper articles, one Beta video recording (Campaign for Nonviolence, July 2004), eleven CDs of photographs and information pertaining to the seasons for nonviolence, one audiocassette (CNV Rally 2001 that aired on radio station 580AM), and records pertaining to a program called \"SafeZone.\" PEERS records describe educational offerings about sexual violence, dating violence, domestic violence, stalking, and sexual harassment for women and men.
